I am having one of those days. It seems everything I am trying to get done implodes due to my lack of ability to figure it out. Below are my cases in point.
My wireless printer was working properly with both my iPad and laptop when I left in April. Knitting patterns were printed, legible letters written and ran off, all was good. Then while I was away the wireless gnomes messed with my stuff and upon returning I could no longer print. To add to the confusion about three weeks ago we upgraded to a new router (well after first attempting to print). This morning I decided it was time to address the problem so the electronic manual was downloaded, things were reinstalled and attempts to print were made. Two full hours of time were invested in the adventure. Heck I even gave up on wireless and went direct by connecting my PC to the printer using a USB, to no avail. On the bright side, Paul has promised to help tomorrow (he is indeed a jewel of a guy). Non-success #1.
With that failure behind me I moved on to trying to log on to a site I use for work. Say, what, yes I have an online very, very part-time job. The login was changed about two weeks ago because it didn't work and now again this morning it didn't work. I even downloaded Firefox because we thought that might be the problem. I have reinforcements coming to the rescue on this front. Non-success #2. P.S. Before I got this posted we resolved this issue. I had been given the wrong address to the site.
After lunch I decided to finally convert rows 29-42 of the Anisette wrap to a chart. I rather enjoy the shorthand of knitting charts versus the written directions. Following the lines of written directions is more difficult for these old eyes. After searching online my hopes of cutting and pasting the written instructions into something magical that would spit out a chart were dashed. So I went old school using graph paper, pencil and symbols to make the chart I want. I have to say after the previous failures this was not nearly as boring to create as I expected. It just goes to show context is everything, isn't it. And I now have a chart I can use for 18 repeats of those 14 rows or
put another way the next 252 rows!
put another way the next 252 rows!
Perhaps tomorrow will bring about more favourable outcomes. I think I will knit to drown out the negativity of the day.
Oh, and to lighten the spirit here's one of Miss M's first attempts at selfies. She has gone on record to say: "When the baby comes I want a real phone." At just over 2.5 years old she did manage to get her hands on a real phone too. Hey, in the very near future she will become my tech support person. Again, the context of her life with technology is quite different from my own. She is a native with it at 2.5, I am an immigrant still struggling with the language even after more than 20 years.
She managed to flip the camera from front to back (or maybe she got help). |
