Technically the title above should read, ¨We´ve Only Just Begun,¨ a song released by The Carpenters in 1970. But that is way too long for a blog title and in this case it refers to a couple of dynamics.
My red, white and blue clad chef, Miss M, is fake eating one of her fake cookies. And this my followers reveals a good deal about her rapidly developing personality. Her parents are both interested in food (perhaps they could be called foodies) so it should come as no surprise she has started to show interest in not only the eating part of the enterprise, but also in the creation of it as well. I suspect it won´t be long before her Mom and Dad will have all the help they can handle in the kitchen. The point is Miss M´s personality has only just begun to reveal itself. It will show itself slowly for sure, but I can´t wait to see what special interests, skills, hobbies, talents etc. she has up her sleeve.
Miss M´s Mom and I decided with a birthday coming knitted food could be something she would use. If the photo above is any indication, it is possible she will eat it right up! And I have only just begun in creating these fun little works of replication. It seems appropriate to start out with healthy foods like fruits and vegetables before bringing on the hot dogs, burgers, fries, and pizza. I started by knitting a couple of strawberries but many more are necessary. There will also be a banana, pear, apple, lemon and lime, as well. There is time to get it all done, but the focus for the next few weeks will be on the fruit. You have been forewarned about what will be discussed for the foreseeable future.
As for the strawberries, they offer up the perfect opportunity to use up all those bits and pieces of yarn I simply cannot bring myself to throw away. What a great way to use up that part of my stash that is almost useless for any other project. I want these things to look as much like the real fruit as possible; thus the change in colour from bright red to a more subdued red to ivory in the left berry (it is actually completely finish). Real strawberries often have variations of colour in them and are often not quite ripe under the cap or hull. There are several bits of variations on red and green in my yarn stash that will work perfectly for these berries.
The most lovely thing about this project is that as I knit, Miss M is constantly on my mind. It is like a gift that gives back to me more than what it will to the receiver. Indeed, we both have only just begun; Miss M and that developing personality and me with her birthday present.
(Instinctively I knew some of you had to see a new photo of my girl.) |

Each berry takes approximately 1.5 hours from start to finish |
