You might have noticed there has been little of my own knitting shown in the last week or so. Truth be told after my announcement about incomplete projects, I took myself aside and had a serious talk.
Knitting takes up 2-4 hours per day every day of the week, and I am not one of those people who can run a race and knit. My style of knitting requires that I sit so that means I sit at least 2-4 hours every day. This is not good for one's overall health. Even with my daily walk, I am not moving around enough.
Then there is the guilt I feel when I don't complete something OR I complete it but it doesn't meet my relatively low standards. There's all the yarn and needles, not to mention the money spent on yarn. This can cause financial stress. Plus I have taken a real interest in photography and certain types of art projects. These activities actually require more movement than knitting. And I am not reading as much as I'd like. So in light of full disclosure I am writing to announce I am giving up knitting.
I know this will require some changes. First I will share my stash with those interested in what I have, sell some of it online and give the rest away. Ditto for the needles and other paraphernalia. I plan to take photography classes here and in Minneapolis. As for the blog, I haven't yet decided. Either it will have a name change or a new one will be started. With more free time I intend to do more moving in the house, the neighborhood and perhaps the gym.
So just like the cherry blossoms, a season comes to an end.

Did you believe any of that? Really?? APRIL FOOLS.
I am addicted to all things yarny and could only consider giving away any of my stash one skein at a time. That stuff is dear to me, it inspires and motivates and sometimes just plain calls out to me. This stopping of knitting will not be happening as written. If anything I might knit less but never not at all.
Unfortunately, much of what I've written above is true. I do need to spend more time exercising and working down both my weight and stash. Photography is a growing interest so I do really need to take more classes to become proficient. Having said all of this, I need to spend the 4 hours per day where I am not knitting doing a better job of taking care of me.
Indeed there was a bit of a slump after the Ph.D. post. But there are generally a few such slumps per year so I'm learning to roll with them. The slump is now over and I do have some things to be revealed so stay tuned. And here's hoping your April 1 was full of good, safe pranks.

Most blossoms are now gone. The green leaves are prevalent. |
