The Beatles song title is,
With A Little Help From My Friends. That's how yesterday went, I got by with a little help from my friends. Nancy, my friend in Minneapolis, who has been a friend for 20 years is an avid reader of my blog. She is a very good soul in that regard and even though I see her often now, she continues to read what I say here. So yesterday shortly after I posted my problem about the table, she and her husband, Mike, arrived at my door ready to do hard labour.
Mike came with gloves, which made a huge difference when trying to pick up the glass table top. Together we formulated a plan regarding hoisting it. One of my daughter-in-laws had dinner with me Tuesday night; we ate crossed-legged on the floor around the coffee table. She had been here on Sunday helping my son and I pick up the thing. Additionally, she had put her thinking cap on and on Tuesday suggested we take advantage of the rather sturdy wooden coffee table she'd left for me to use until I got something for myself. The coffee table could be the first stop of a modified clean and jerk sort of maneuver to get the glass top all the way to the height of the pedestals. Mike liked the idea and before I knew it we created a fully functioning dining table. Our efficiency with the move was remarkable. And we agreed, the beveled edge of the glass should be on top, not on the bottom where the movers had left it. Done, done and done!

Then Nancy volunteered to do some furniture shopping with me. She took me to
Home Goods, the U.S. version of
Home Sense found in Canada. There I found the perfect set of drapes for the bedroom, a couple of soft foot stools I'll use as side tables in the bedroom, and an ottoman big enough to serve as an coffee table and bench chair as well as a whole lot of storage. We also purchased a couple of extra side chairs for the dining table. Best part this all fit in my car and Nancy stayed to help me schlep it into the condo.

The place is coming together, but you can see there's plenty of furniture needed. A couch/chesterfield might be nice and some other comfy chairs for the living room. Once I finish with my furniture a collapsible crib and high chair have to be found too. And something on the walls would be very nice. All in good time, I say to myself; you've only been here two weeks.
Thus yesterday one perplexing situation was solved with help from my friends. Good friends are priceless, as are thoughtful family members. I am lucky to have both.
