Susan (my Minneapolis knit buddy) and I will be heading out to Knitting Camp July 6-9. This is a knitting instructional session run by Meg Swansen, Elizabeth Zimmermann, daughter. Who is Elizabeth Zimmermann you ask? Check out my post from July 2013 here. Zimmermann started her camps in the 1970's where they were actually in tents in the woods, then moved them to Madison, Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin and then to Marshfield, Wisconsin, a location just a short drive from Schoolhouse Press in Pittsville, Wisconsin.
This is what Meg Swansen has to say about this year's Knitting Camp:

This is what Meg Swansen has to say about this year's Knitting Camp:
Knitting Camp 2017 is our forty-fourth year of camp. From our early beginnings at the University of
Wisconsin under Elizabeth Zimmermann’s guidance to present day, Knitting Camp has been a place for
all knitters to learn new skills, show off their knitting prowess, meet new friends, and gather for a weekend
to knit with like-minded individuals from across the country.
I received a participants list which shows 46 of us taking the first camp, which is designed to help first-timers learn EPS (Elizabeth's Percentage System). It is a way to use math to work out the proportions of a sweater to help insure proper fit. Although I understand the basics it will be wonderful to actually get help in fully implementing it.
There is homework. One has a choice between starting two sweaters. Unfortunately I started my sweater before fully reading all the material. It appears I will be starting a second one because IT is the one that will be used in a session taught by Meg. Sigh. Some days I wish I were a different, more thorough person, but then I wouldn't get the opportunity to complete two baby sweaters!!
Here's some photos of what I am supposed to be making:

My spiral yoked sweater is being knit in different colours, brown and pink to be exact. And the second one is still at the concept stage, meaning the yarn has not yet been selected! Oh, and I should knit a name tag as well. I never was all that fond of homework; there were plenty of false starts even during my school days. After all this time you'd think I would handle the frustration better. I am over it now and will start tonight on the proper sweater.
There will be more about the Knitting Camp as the event takes place in July.
