For the second time in my life I have become a grandmother. Yesterday at 7:01 am a 7 pound 10 ounces, 20.75 inch baby entered the world. This baby has blue eyes and dark brown hair just like her older sister did at birth. She will be referred to here at Miss A. She was full term, is healthy with all body parts attached and her Mom is doing well. Another perfect outcome.
Miss M was justifiably a bit freaked out when she was lead into the hospital room to see her mother resting in bed looking so tired, but after a few minutes she was curious to see what her new sister looked like. The picture above captures that moment. I love the intensity of Miss M's gaze with Dad hovering ever so close.
Miss A was so smart too even on her first day in the outer world, she had the perfect gift, a toddler camera, for her sister. Miss M was thrilled with the gift. That Miss A is already making a great friend of her older sister.
I have been spreading the word about the newest member of the family and receiving in return lovely wishes of congratulations. The rush of emotions I felt when Miss M arrived have resurfaced and I cannot wait until Tuesday evening when I arrive in town to meet Miss A.
Mom, my mother, referred to Miss A as another tiny twig on the family tree. That imagery touched me. Mom now has 13 great grandchildren and was told about Miss A shortly after Dad's passing. Miss A will always have that special responsibility of adding to the tree after a rather big branch was lost, not only for Mom, but also me and for my son, Miss A's dad. It is a lot for such a tiny package to manage.
Paul and I spoke of how lucky we both have been to have children who have entered into life with good health, grown into fully functioning adults with good jobs and now grandchildren who are also healthy and growing up as one would wish. I am the recipient of much good fortune and should remember to never take it for granted.
Miss A, welcome to the fold. There is a richness of family we all have to share with you.
