I am behind in congratulating Canada in celebrating 149 years of existence; July 1 is the day we commemorate the event. Happy belated Canada Day. The Yarn Harlot writes proudly of Canada on this day in her typical Canadian way. Check out her 2016 post
here.
And to my U.S. friends and family, enjoy the 4th of July. (At least I managed to get one of the two mentioned before the day is complete.) Additionally I would be remiss if I didn't do a quick shout out to my youngest son and his wife on this their seventh wedding anniversary. My son says he likes the idea that there are always fireworks for their anniversary.
Now on to pink and blue. While randomly surfing through VeryPink.com I found a lovely jumper designed for girls.

Fiona Baby Sundress by Very Pink (it's her photo too) |
This little project would allow me to address a couple of issues that have been bouncing around in my head lately. I need to be knitting things for Sister #1 (I hate the moniker Baby Girl #2, to Miss M she will be Sister #1, so this is her name until something more specific comes along.) I am behind on this count and need to get moving. Second, there has been an entire spool of pink cotton yarn calling to me for some time. It was first used to begin Little Arrow lace scarf in 2013 (you can see the failed attempt
here and
here). At some point in the last three years I completely frogged Little Arrows and it has been sitting forlorn in my stash every since. Then last year a small ball of variegated pink cotton yarn in the same weight was purchased at a thrift shop. The purpose all along was the variegated cotton would be used with the solid pink cotton, the only element missing, the perfect pattern. VeryPink solved that dynamic in the
Fiona Baby Sundress.
It is being knit in the 6-12 month size with the hope it will fit Sister #1 for at least part of the summer next year. I am happy with the outcome. Although my photo might not capture it, the contrast between the two colours is clear. As Staci said from Very Pink she loves her stockinette stitch. So far I have knit about 5 of the 9 inches of stockinette needed to complete the skirt of the jumper. There is still the bodice and straps to make as well. Some on Ravelry where the full pattern lives have used knitted straps and buttons instead of icords to hold the jumper on the shoulders. As of yet I have not decided which to do. You will see the completed project sometime in the future, for now here's a look at where we are.

So far so good |
Blue is for blueberries and we are talking about 10 pounds/4.5 kg of them. A friend had recommended if we like blueberries, and we do, that this weekend would be the time to pick them up. She had found a place locally selling fresh picked blueberries at quite a remarkable price. Yesterday we went searching for these antioxidant filled beauties and found not one but two places selling for $2/pound.

These farm-fresh blueberries are remarkable in flavor and size. They lack the bitterness one sometimes gets from store purchased blueberries, are really sweet and look how big they are. We managed to down quite our fill yesterday. Today I washed and froze most of them, some will be dehydrated to use in my chicken, blueberry and maple syrup sausage recipe and the rest will be enjoyed fresh. What a treat!
