Life here on the farm tends to move along at it own rhythm. Mom and I have been doing some tidying up at a pace that suits her. We are experimenting with new recipes to her, new frozen dinners and even a new way to have the mail delivered to her door (it takes a letter from her physician, but the box can be moved). And Mom is back to knitting again, always a good sign things are moving to a new normal.
I purchased two skeins of this yarn years ago because I love the colours. It is a Deborah Norville yarn called Serenity sock weight in the colour way of Violas. The yarn is 50% super wash merino wool, 25% rayon made of bamboo and 25% nylon; a combination I hope will make for a durable pair of socks. In addition you will note the ribbing is different because I am actually following the directions to make socks for this specific yarn. It is so rare for me to use the designer's yarn for a pattern that I want to point out I am doing it. This sock seems to be coming together quickly, I already have 2/3 of the heel flap complete. My hope is to have the pair complete by the end of the week.
Yesterday morning Mom saw a peregrine falcon very close to the house sitting in a bush where many small birds live. One of my brothers confirmed indeed there are peregrines around and that he had also seen a bald eagle in the woods the other day. Apparently once the lake freezes over the eagle will leave. Then I captured these guys.
They are wild turkeys right on the yard. I took this photo through the front door window of the house with no zoom. And although one turkey is on guard watching me they stayed eating gravel and grass for about 20 minutes. Oh and my nephew captured a pheasant eating on the yard a few days ago as well. Why it is like we have a natural bird sanctuary around the farm.
As the post title states I have started another pair of socks.

A final word. This self striping sock yarn is a hoot to knit. Looking at the skein it is impossible for me to guess how the sock will look. But as I knit it is as if a secret is being fully revealed. The process is so much fun that way. (Perhaps I am too easily entertained, but I get a kick out of things like this.)
