People know I'm a knitter generally because I keep telling them about this interest. So it comes as no surprise when friends and colleagues decide to give me a gift it is almost always relates to knitting.
So because of my sharing this interest I now own this lovely personalized knitting bowl. A knitting bowl is a container that holds a ball or cake of yarn. It has an opening of some sort that allows a strand of yarn to stay connected to the bowl and yet still escape it through a slit or a hole in the bowl. Rather than my trying to describe more about a yarn bowl, take a look at all the lovely types of bowls available by clicking here.
As you see these bowls can be made from wood, metal, ceramics and wool. Their singular purpose is to keep the ball or cake of yarn in one place as you pull from it while knitting. Note the keyhole for the yarn can turn up toward the right or left. If you are concerned which shape of keyhole to purchase, check out this post found on Stardust Pottery. (Inquiring minds might like to know that the direction of the upturn in the keyhole is dictated by right-handed or left-handed knitting of the user. BTW, I hadn't given much thought to this, but now that it is laid out for me, it does make sense.)
This gift was given to me from colleagues/friends as a retirement and birthday gift. It is handmade by Maid of Clay. You do need to click on the the website to see all of the other types of personalized clay this creative potter makes. At the time it was given to me John wondered out loud if this type of bowl would really work; John, I assure you it works very well for the purpose it is intended. A perfect gift with a big Thank you from me to Candy and John.
Dana gave me a yarn bowl for Xmas and it too has been used and works great as a yarn bowl, despite its holes. Luckily for me I have two domiciles and one "bowl" for each of them. Thanks all the way around (the bowl).

Jan, well now you have three yarn bowls. I bought one a few weeks ago (near our cabin) for your housewarming present. The high school kids make all sorts of bowls each year for fund raising for their Empty Bowls project (feeding the hungry), and the yarn bowls are one of their specialties. So you don't need to bring one to Minneapolis when you come, unless you need two (and possibly so for all your knitting projects).
ReplyDeleteNancy, the more the merrier. I am seriously thinking about decorating the condo in sort of knitting theme. Yarn bowls are so pretty they should be on display. See you soon!
ReplyDeleteI like last one ceramic yarn bowl which is white and pink in shade looking nice one here.
