If you have been following this blog you know I mention Stephanie Pearl-McPhee with a certain amount of regularity. Apparently she has been referenced no less than seven times by me in the blog. Here's what I had to say about her back in May 2012:
Stephanie Pearl-McPhee from Toronto, Ontario is a prolific knitter and writer. Her blog, the Yarn Harlot is consistently ranked as one of the #1 knitting blogs in North America. She is able to write in intriguing ways and knits up a storm as well. I reluctantly encourage you to take a look at her blog because my efforts pale in comparison. She is such a great writer. Hey, she even has her own Wikipedia page.
To say I am a fan is such an understatement. Her love for knitting and life, as well as her Canadian sense of humour comes through every word on the page/screen. I follow her blog faithfully daily. And on those days when she doesn't post I am a slightly lesser person because I need her kick in the funny bone to remember to smile. She also has five books in print and according to her blog is finishing up on the final edits of a sixth. They too contain nothing but the cool humour of a not-so-mild mannered knitter.

So there are a couple things I did today that contribute to the title: "I Did It!"
- I wrote a comment on Stephanie's blog post today (September 18, 2013). You might think perhaps I oversold this but let me explain. I tend to have a voyeuristic approach to the blog and chat room following I do. This means I will read but not comment which in the greater scheme of things is a good thing. I might write something like: "Really, did you think #38 to say good job is worth the time it took for you to write it and me to read it?" See, I should read and not comment. But today and frankly for the last several months her titles for posts have been so spot on I had to ask about the process to come up with them. Today's post was titled Still Boring. My question is #65 in the comments for this post. That is a low number of comments for the Yarn Harlot; she's been known to average hundreds per day. So yes, I have interacted finally, no matter how remote, with my knitting idol.
- Since I am such a fan of Stephanie, I've long vowed that if ever she was within driving distance I would make every effort to go see her speak and get her to sign one of her books. The wonderful news is the Yarn Harlot is scheduled to be a part of Knit City at the Croatian Cultural Center on Saturday and Sunday, October 26 and 27. Not only will she be teaching classes she'll also give one of her infamous lectures. Best part I've scored a ticket to attend that lecture on Saturday evening. This, I am confident, will be something wonderful for me.
