The class was a mere 3 hours in length and many who took it were able to complete the cowl in that time. But no, not me. I could whine that it was a long workday, that the class started at 6 pm, that I was caught in stalled traffic caused by an auto accident and barely made it on time, that there was no time for dinner, that the chair was uncomfortable and the class was too loud; but frankly those would all be lame excuses. Look at that pattern, it is a very simple yarn over and knit 2 together combination lace-like look. Heck there were beginning knitters in the class speeding through it. But no, not me. Here's what I got done in 3 hours.

It seems if you can't remember to reverse the knit and purls when you are reading a chart as you move from right side to wrong side, you have plenty of opportunities to tink (reverse knit) and start again. (I could complain here about knitting patterns and why they follow impractical rules like this, but alas it would be a waste of time. It's just
me.) I managed to have to remove the 20 row repeat no less than 3 times during 3 hours. If I had knit it right in the first place I'd have had the thing done, like so many of my classmates.
So the False Creek cowl and I have had a falling out. It is pouting all by itself in a bag on a shelf until after the Holidays. Perhaps later I'll be able to focus and finish it. But for now, we just aren't speaking, the best approach for both of us, for now.
On a happier note here's one of the 3 cowls Tena's finished in the past week. This is how it should look -- happy and lovely and done!

Tena's cowl, already block just needs her lovely buttons attached. |
There's something about doomed projects and me. The Wall Flower hanging, the Noro sweater and now this False Creek cowl, when they have a rocky start it doesn't seem to matter how much time off I take from them, they have lost their magic and just don't click again. (I don't hold grudges, but I don't forget either, which is probably just as bad, I suppose.) Hmmm -- Perhaps I've revealed far more about my personality than I meant to, but there it is for all of us to ponder.
You'll be updated if and when the False Creek cowl and I make up. I strongly recommend you not hold your breath on this one. I think the cowl is just about as stubborn as I am.
