You know how it goes, periodically you simply become so inspired by a pattern you have to stop everything and just make it up. (OK, perhaps that's me and not you.) Well, that's what happen to me with regard to the apple and banana fruit cozies I recently crocheted.
An apple, pear and banana cozy smile! |
The photo above caused me to stop and think about the fruit I bring to work each day. There are days when my banana has to be eaten immediately upon arrival because it has been knocked around in my lunch bag with the rest of items causing it to be badly bruised. These projects looked like very quick ones so I crocheted away. And within a few hours this was my results:

Should you want to make your own click here for the free patterns. I used leftover varigated cotton yarn from previous projects; the author/designer, Kristen, used linen. (I prefer my changes in colour!) Plus the cotton cozies can be thrown in the wash should they get dirty, linen might be a bit trickier to clean.
In the end I gave them away because I guess I don't mind a bit of bruising on my fruit or I'd forget to use them or both. When I saw a colleague using one of the plastic cozies sold in specialty stores I told her she might like to see mine. In the end we decided she could have them with the stipulation that I needed a good picture so I could post it. So what you see above is Allison's handiwork with her camera.

Thanks Kristen TenDyke for Classic Elite Yarns for sharing this pattern. Allison, thanks for taking one of the best photos on this blog, no shadows, light background, just perfect!
Cold fruit is the worst! Glad that you have found the perfect solution to my chilly banana woes. Maybe the orange industry needs to get in on this when the frost hits Northern Florida.
ReplyDeleteHey, great idea Dack. There could be quite a market there in Florida for millions of cozies. I'll get right on it!
